Service Colitis

Microscope of large intestine inflammation

Overview

Colitis essentially means inflammation of the lining of the colon of which there are many causes. It can present with diarrhoeal symptoms and/or bleeding from the back passage.

Treatment

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, hospital admission may be required. I may decide to admit you to organise prompt assessment and treatment of symptoms. Scans may be required and possibly a left or full colonoscopy with biopsies.

Aftercare

I will follow up on the relevant biopsy results and scans. I will communicate these to you and your GP. If there is a diagnosis of a chronic condition, such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s/Ulcerative Colitis), I will organise follow up.
